Surgery Day

Our friendly team will welcome you and make you comfortable for the upcoming procedure.

You may have been dreaming of this day for years after suffering with dentures or failing teeth, perhaps you thought it would never come as you were told by other dentists that you were not suitable for implants – but it’s here!

It can be daunting, nerve-wracking and exciting in equal measure, but knowing what to expect can help you to feel in control and confident about this exciting part of your journey.

From the moment you arrive, here’s what to expect from your day at Mulberry Dental Clinic

Settling in

After arriving at reception you’ll be made comfortable straight away with your own private patient reception area
If you are bringing someone with you for the day as support then they will be able to wait for you there throughout the day.

The day ahead

Morning
We ask you to arrive right at your appointment time, so we can welcome you, you will be taken to your own private patient area where our nurse will answer any questions you may have about the day ahead.
Then, under sedation and pain-free, any remaining teeth are extracted and dental implants placed.
Each jaw takes about 2 hours.
This is followed by 30 minutes of bite calculation and impression taking.

Afternoon
You will then be taken back to your patient area where you can relax and recover while your bespoke initial prosthesis is made in our on-site lab.

Late afternoon
Your new ‘smile in a day’ prosthetics is placed. Leaving with your first set of fixed teeth, you return a few weeks later for your final set.

At Mulberry Dental Clinic, you have found a caring and experienced team

Whether you’re naturally nervous, we appreciate how important a life-changing procedure like our dental implants placement is, which is why we pride ourselves on our unique and unparalleled approach.

From the fully integrated lab where your prosthetic is made to our excellent team of experts, we have everything within our arsenal to ensure the full management of even the most complex dental procedures.

How your Smile a Day is created in our inhouse labs while you wait

The simple answer is ‘no’, it shouldn’t be. We believe in total pain management and carry out the surgical procedure under local anaesthetic. As with all extensive dental treatments, some patients will experience post-operative tenderness in the mouth and mild swelling for a few days after the procedure – but this is completely normal. Full pre and post-operative medications and instructions are provided by our clinical team to help with any discomfort.

Please talk to us about any concerns you have. We pride ourselves on being welcoming, caring, understanding, non-judgmental, professional, and extremely friendly.

Immediately after receiving your fixed teeth prosthesis, you can eat all foods which can easily be cut with a fork. Chewing forces should be kept relatively gentle in the first 4 months following surgery to allow your jawbone to bond firmly with the implants. Once we have done our final checks at 6 months after implant placement and we are sure your implants have fully integrated with your jawbone, you may move on to more adventurous foods like chewing steaks and biting apples! Our food recommendations for the first 4 months include fish, chicken, pasta, chips, mashed and boiled potatoes, and eggs.

Historically, the field of occlusion (the bite) in dentistry has been dominated by subjective analysis and ‘patient feel’ to diagnose and treat problems related to the bite. Articulating paper is an occlusal indicator that only shows points of contact between teeth. However, the paper alone cannot provide data on the level of force and timing of when the teeth come together. At Mulberry Dental Clinic we use the most advanced techniques to ensure your bite is correct.
